CoroCraft Sterling Vermeil & Diamond Goose On The Wing NWS 1-1646
~ This is the highly collectible, highly desirable "CoroCraft Sterling", Coro's top of the line, issued during World War II. ~ During that time, costume jewelry makers were obliged to use sterling silver for their jewelry, as all other metals had been restricted for the war effort. This graceful southbound bird has been made of solid sterling silver, while the wing bars, neck and body have been plated with 18K gold vermeil. ~ In addition, all of the crystals have been faceted and set by hand. The throat and chest of the goose is decorated with pavé-set, faux diamonds. And though my photos don't show it very well, please note that this fat goose is totally 3-dimensional, so that his etched feathers and lifted wings really make a visual impact. The artist has made cut-outs in the wings and body so the goose's imaginary plumage assumes the colors of your sweater or dress. Pretty awesome. ~ The bird has a faceted, faux ruby for an eye. ~ The brooch measures 4" wide (wing tip to wing tip) and 1 5/8" high. ~ The reverse is marked "Coro Craft" and "STERLING" on an oval plaque. c. 1945, in excellent condition, with very little wear to the vermeil, and all stones appear original. Craftsmanship from back in the day when there was such a thing in costume jewelry. Price = $125.00 b, a-c Who was Coro? |
