Chanel Pearl & Gripoix Leaves Necklace NWS 1 - 1627 ~ If fate grants that this necklace should find its way to you, you'll share in some of the glory of fashion history. This is a museum quality, investment-grade, piece of French jewelry history, and it should be treasured for future generations to come! After all, they're not making them like this anymore. ~ Let me give you an example: These red glass leaves were made by the House of Gripoix in France. Gripoix is an art form called patè de verre, or poured glass, a labor-intensive handmade process invented in 1869 by Augustine Gripoix. Only a handful of skilled Frenchmen have mastered this art. For example, it takes a minimum of 400 hours to form one of these glass leaves. I don't begin to understand the entire process which now bears the inventor's name. All I can say is, the result is indescribably beautiful. ~ Three strands of glass pearls in a luscious clean, white color are hand-tied onto white silk cord. Each pearl is of course separated by individually hand-tied knots for security. One knot is lightly frizzing. ~ One Gripoix red glass leaf is suspended from each strand, and the jeweler has applied 24K gold details to create veins in the leaves. Just magnificent. There are no chips or cracks to the glass, nor have there been any repairs. I can detect no damage whatsoever to the leaves, but of course there is evidence of light wear to the gilding on the edges. This is normal for a piece of such age. Still, you can see from the photos with your own eyes that this necklace is in superbly wearable condition. ~ The longest strand measures 18". The necklace terminates in a hook and chain for slightly adjustable length. c. 1960's, in excellent vintage condition. Glass pearls have no condition problems. This necklace is not commonly found, may be a one-of-a-kind piece as it is most likely runway couture, and worthy of a fashionista's top drawer collection. It is superb. Price = $5,167.00 a-c3, nex3
