Hattie Carnegie Turquoise & Lapis Snake Necklace NWS 5-1278 ~ Ooooh, sleek and sexy, this gorgeous turquoise and lapis beaded cobra necklace wraps himself around your neck and changes your world. I say that because this Egyptian Revival necklace will cause people to notice! After all, how many women do you know own a vintage necklace like this? ~ The snake is comprised of 20 tubular plastic beads, each one of which has been carved with snake scales and has been polished to look like real snake skin! In between each of these is an engraved golden spacer bead. ~ The snake's tail is also engraved with snake skin details. It gently curls around and upwards at the tip, forming the necklace's clasp. The snake's head slides into this clasp for a firm hold. Interestingly, the loop formed by the tip of the tail is just large enough to accomodate the beaded body at any point in its length, so the length can be adjusted, like a bolo tie. ~ The snake's head is fanned out, like a cobra in an alert position. The base metal has been created to accommodate basse taille relief, creating an enameled decoration that is superb. The enamel colors are turquoise, lapis blue, emerald green and deep salmon. The snake's eyes are depicted in the engraved gold tone metal. ~ The necklace measures 18.25" long and the head measures 7/8" wide c. 1930-40, in excellent vintage condition, this piece is highly collectible and won't be here for long so take a good look now! Price = $995.00 Who was Carnegie?
