Lawrence Vrba Bird of Paradise Brooch

NWS 8-1559

~ This is a masterpiece by Lawrence Vrba! Larry was head designer for the Miriam Haskell Jewelry Company in the 1970's, and he is famous for his magnificent, unique creations. This isn't just jewelry. This is art! It's the difference between ready-to-wear and haute couture in the fashion salons, and jewelry connoisseurs know the extraordinary value in each handmade Vrba piece.

~ The architecture of this piece is phenomenal. The bird's wings and tail feathers are individually pieced at different angles, and the stones have been hand-set on top of enameled backgrounds. Each stone is of a slightly different hue than the faceted stone next to it, representing the subtle gradations of a bird's feathers, from blue to aqua to green to violet. It is magnificent!

Beyonce wore nothing but Vrba jewelry for her 10-page spread and cover photo in last summer's Marie Claire magazine.

~ The branch or vine that this bird sits on is covered with fruits (grapes?), depicted with large, emerald-cut crystals, and flowers that have petals made with marquis-cut stones. The curling twig that holds the fruits, leaves and flowers is a separate piece from the branch that the bird sits on. The pieces are wired and soldered together, but are designed to move "en tremblant".

~ This Bird of Paradise brooch measures 4.75" wide and 6.5" high and 1.3" deep.

~ Signed on the reverse "Lawrence VRBA".

c. 1990 in mint condition.

Price = $1,750.00
