Victorian Revival Enamel Portrait Bracelet NWS 8-1188
~ This fantastic bracelet is comprised of 4 round, slightly domed, portrait plaques that are made of porcelain. The portraits have been applied by the transfer process and then enamel details were added by hand to each face. ~ Each plaque forms its own link, having brass rings set into the metal at the top and bottom, and is joined to the next portrait by similar rings ~ Each portrait has an enameled green background that has been painted by hand, and each porcelain disk is dome shaped and bezel set into an ornate brass frame, with saw-tooth edging ~ In between each portrait link is another link that has an engraved cartouche, decorated in black and white enamels, and each of these links has two glass pearls ~ Each porcelain plaque bears a portrait of a woman in different native costume; the details are incredible, as each portrait shows the woman's expression, her 19th century hair style and even the jewelry and head piece with which she has adorned herself. ~ The bracelet measures 7.5" long and .75" wide, with a brass, spring-ring clasp c. 1940's, in great vintage condition: no chips, no cracks, no scratches, no verdigris, no repairs, no loss or wear to portraits Research: There's a necklace shown in the book, Popular Jewelry, 1840 - 1940, by Roseann Ettinger, p.26, that has almost identical enameled brass cartouches, c. 1875. Price = $225.00 |
