Stunning Joseph Mazer Sterling Vermeil Retro Brooch & Earrings Set

NWS 7-1541

~ This fabulous brooch has all of the quintessential design elements of the Retro period: scrolls and swirls, ribbons and flowers, the appearance of "frozen movement".

~ During World War II, costume jewelry designers were obliged to use sterling silver for their jewelry, as all other metals had been restricted for use in the war effort. This floral set is made of solid sterling silver, plated with 18K gold vermeil.

~ Immediately one's eye is drawn to the large, faux sapphire seated at the visual center of this brooch. A dozen flat prongs that secure the stone form part of the flower's design, like stamens. In between each have been placed alternating ruby baguettes and faux diamonds, the popular patriotic color scheme of the times.

~ More faceted, faux diamonds are scattered about the edges of the design, with stems of channel-set, faux rubies above and below the flower head.

~ The brooch is substantial and measures 4.25" high and 2.5" wide.

~ Earrings are clips and measure

~ The reverse of all three pieces is marked "Mazer". Also marked "STERLING".

c. 1943, in excellent condition.

Price = $495.00 sets 3, k-p 2
