Marcel Boucher Coral Reef Brooch

NWS 7-1569

~ Ahead of its time, this brooch has the preservationist's lean towards saving our ecosystems. The world's reefs are under pressure and need protection from further harvesting and human pollution. We like the fact the Boucher made this out of simulated coral so many years ago, while others were removing chunks of live coral willy-nilly.

~ The faux coral is made of resin, though it looks and feels real. It has a very pale, pink champagne color which varies to slightly deeper pink towards the narrower end, making it look natural. The surface is jagged and irregular, just like a chunk of real coral would be, and it is framed by faux gold and diamonte stones. Boucher has made this brooch to look as though it was plucked from the reef of a tropical lagoon!

~ Measures 1.5" x 2".

~ Signed on the reverse " ©BOUCHER " and "1036 P". This number does not fall within the range of inventory numbers used between 1945 - 1965 (numbers 2300 through 9100), but the use of the capital P identifies it as a later issue. My guess is this brooch was probably made towards the end of Sandra Boucher's ownership of the company, around  1972. It is in excellent condition.

Price = $135.00 b5, a-c
