Juliana Black Diamond and Hematite Necklace, Brooch & Earrings Set

~ There's something about the shadowy, dark glimmer of these mysterious stones that is elegant and yet suggestive at the same time. Hematite is alluring.  Amulets of hematite have been found in nearly every pharaoh's tomb as a support in the afterlife. As silvery charcoal as they may appear, they streak blood red when scratched on rough porcelain (called the "scratch test" by geologists). Some Native Americans believed that war paint made from hematite would make one invincible in battle. Hematite is said to protect the wearer's vital energy and guarantee survival.

~ This set isn't real hematite; it's simulated. It's really made of Swarovski crystals, which is just as well, because if it were the real mineral, you wouldn't be able to get out of your chair. Hematite is heavy, like lead! And that, my friend, is one reason why this set is so awesome. You get the look, and you don't have to be afraid of going near deep water!

~ See all those big, fat, juicy cabochons? They are oval-shaped AND they are concave, kind of like a hotdog bun. I have never seen stones like this, but then again, that is what makes DeLizza & Elster, aka JULIANA jewelry so famous. The use of unique and very unexpected stones sets them apart from all the rest. The image to the right shows a close-up of a cabochon. However, the concave bottom of the stone is rolled, like the bottom of the letter "U", not sharp, like the letter "V". Those are just reflections in the photo.

~ Small, smoky chatons are sprinkled throughout the design for more fire power.

~ Not many D&E sets are japanned (done in a dark or "gunmetal" plating) like this one is, another unique quality of this set.

~ The necklace measures 17.5" long and is adjustable. The drop pendant measures 2.15".

~ The brooch measures 2.25" wide.

~ Earrings are clips and measure 1.5" long.
