Trifari Patriotic Diamond & Enamel Bow Brooch by Joseph Wuyts NWS 3-1230
~ Jewelry historians call most designs from the American Retro Period (1938-1950) "frozen movement", and you can see why when you look at the swirling ribbon with it's curling ends. If you didn't know it was metal, you would definitely be fooled into thinking it was a real ribbon! ~ Designed by a member of the famous Trifari design team, Joseph Wuyts, this graceful enamel and crystatl studded brooch is the epitome of grace. The 2nd image shows the original design patent filed with the US Patent Office on March 2, 1940, and was signed by Wuyts on behalf of Trifari. ~ Set in thickly plated rhodium metal, there are dozens of large, faceted, faux diamonds that have been pavé-set into the brilliant background that looks like platinum. ~ The loops of the bow are enameled in red and blue, a symbol of American solidarity at a very dangerous time in World history. The infamous bombing of Pearl Harbor was just on the horizon when this brooch was conceived. ~ The brooch measures slightly over 2.25" wide and has the same height. ~ Marked "Trifari", with the crown trademark above the "T". c. 1940, simply a stunning brooch, as well as a meaningful part of our American past. Research: American Costume Jewelry, by Brunialti & Brunialti, p. 103-104. Price = $195.00 Who was Trifari? |
