1930's "Gingham" Beaded Fringe Book Chain Necklace

 NWS 3-1537

~ Something about this necklace makes me think of The Wizard of Oz. Not that Dorothy would have worn this, but she could have,... with her red and white gingham dress and ruby slippers. This necklace is exactly from the same late 1930's era.

~ The foundation is a gold tone book chain, a glance back to the Victorian chains that dominated the last half of the 19th century.

~ Dangling below are 23 beaded strands of white glass beads, in 4 graduated sizes. Each white bead is surrounded by a flat, red glass separator with cookie-cutter edges.

~ Smaller white beads dangle continuously around the remainder of the necklace to the clasp in back.

~ Along the inner edge of the book chain, the beaded design is continued along the entire length.

~ This fabulous necklace measures 16.75" long. At the center, the longest strand is 2.5" long.

c. 1939, in excellent condition, a unique, one-of-a-kind creation, right out of the American Depression era.

Price = $135.00 nex 3
