Trifari Sterling Vermeil Jelly Belly Poodle, by Alfred Philippe

NWS  2-2010

~ Isn't she wonderful? All groomed and puffed up and ready for Westminster! Designed by Trifari's master designer, Alfred Philippe, the design for this brooch was patented on February 10, 1942, as you can see by the above photo of original filing at the US Patent Office.

~ The entire brooch has been thickly plated with faux gold, which forms a perfect background for dozens upon dozens of faceted, pavé-set, clear crystals; these faux diamonds outline the poodle's ear, forelegs, portions of the rear legs, pom-pom tail, and waist

~ One faceted, faux ruby marks her eye

~ The jelly belly is comprised of a large cabochon of clear Lucite (as are all Jelly Bellies, that's where the nickname comes from); the jelly belly is in near mint condition with almost no signs of wear, even when inspected under magnification

~ She measures 2 7/8" high and 1.5" wide

~ Featured in many jewelry books, one is American Costume Jewelry, by Brunialti & Brunialti, p. 148

c. 1942, in great vintage condition; I replaced 2 tiny clear stones that were missing; minimal, normal wear to the gold plating, she looks fabulous as you can see

Price = $395.00
