Margot de Taxco Sterling Clamper Bracelet on Hold NWS 2-2014
~ This magnificent sterling "clamper" bracelet was made by Margot de Taxco, the famous American designer who moved to Mexico in the late 1930's. Margot van Voorhies Carr, fondly known as "Margot de Taxco", opened her own "taller", or workshop, in Taxco, Mexico, in 1948. She quickly gained international attention for her intriguing and beautiful sterling jewelry, the designs for which were frequently based upon pre-Columbian themes. Her enameled jewelry has always been sought after, but more recently, her silver jewelry has become highly collectible, because it is scarce. She died in 1985. ~ This type of bracelet is known as a "clamper" in America, because this cuff bracelet has a spring-loaded hinge that causes it to clamp shut. In actuality, the spring offers a gentle pressure that keeps the arms of the cuff closed, but never causes any discomfort to a woman's wrist. It is an ideal design, because the clamper fits most women's wrists. ~ The front features a looped ribbon design that is also accented with a multitude of silver beads. The recesses of the design are oxidized which gives depth and dimension. ~ Margot de Taxco marked her jewelry with a design number. Her all-silver pieces (non-enamel bearing designs) were numbered 5100 through 5790. This bracelet is design #5297. c. 1940's, 112 grams, in excellent vintage condition Price = $995.00on Hold
