Coro Hyacinth Enamel & Rhinestone Brooch

NWS 15-1153

~ Coro has done it again! Look what a remarkable flower brooch this is, unlike any other I've seen. It looks so real!

~ This spectacular brooch is actually made of two separate pieces that have been riveted together: the stem and leaves are one part, and the flower head itself is the other; from the back, you can see where they've been joined together

~ This piece is made of pot metal that has been thickly plated with rhodium.

~ The leaves have been hand-painted with 3 or 4 different shades of green - it's hard to tell, because the gradation is very delicate, from dark green near the stem, to the palest green at the tip and on the edges

~ The stem is covered with pavé-set, faceted, clear rhinestones, in graduated sizes from large at the bottom to smaller at the top; the underside of the leaf tip on the right is also decorated with faux diamonds

~ The hyacinth is made up of 21 individually hand enameled florets, each having both white and 2 shades of raspberry red, and at the center of each floret is a faceted, clear rhinestone

~ The brooch measures almost 2" wide and 3.25" high

~ Signed "Coro" on the reverse, with the old, original, upright script mark

~ Swivel head safety clasp

c. 1940, in near mint condition, all stones are original and bright!

~ Featured in the book, Forties & Fifties Popular Jewelry, by Roseann Ettinger, p. 35
