Chanel Maltese Cross Charm Bracelet

Sold Thank You

NWS 12-1613

~ Coco Chanel was attending a dinner party at a friend's house one evening back in 1930. Coco was chatting with Cole Porter (yes, THE Cole Porter), and he asked her if she had met the Count of Verdura, from Sicily. She said that she had not. So Cole introduced them to one another, and from that moment on, she and Verdura were friends and business buddies for the rest of their lives.

~ Today the House of Chanel draws upon its beloved design traditions to produce jewelry in new and exciting ways. This bracelet harkens back to Verdura's Maltese crosses with fresh and original style - as an over-sized, brazen charm bracelet, bearing seven large, golden crosses. A fabulous statement piece!

~ Thanks to Chanel, Verdura became world famous for his wide cuffs which featured huge Maltese crosses studded with gems. The elite and famous from all over the world coveted these bracelets. Women even wore them in pairs, as is Madame Coco, photos left, 1936.

Coco Chanel and Verdura in 1935, viewing one of his cuffs. Note the exaggerated Maltese cross design.

~ In this charm bracelet, each Maltese cross is engraved with the House of Chanel logo on one side, and an engraved geometric design on the other.  The charms are attached to the chain with a door knocker-type hinge, which is pure genius. It looks stunning and is very different from the run-of-the-mill charm bracelet.

~ The double-ring of one charm is signed "Chanel" "Made in France" and "94" and "P" with the interlocking double C's logo. It is part of the Spring 1994 Collection, and is not commonly found on the market.

~ This bracelet measures 8.3" long (so that it will swag across the back of the upper wrist). The charms measure 1.5" from top of loop to bottom of cross. Bracelet terminates in a large, spring-ring clasp.

c. 1994, in excellent condition, comes with its original box and sleeve.
