Bakelite Tulips Brooch With Carved Lucite Leaves

NWS 12-1300

~ Right out of the 1930's comes this fabulous Bakelite and Lucite brooch. It's big, and it's bold, and it tells a story about American women. In the middle of the worst financial depression the country has ever known, women retained their style. The worse conditions became, the more flamboyant and upbeat their jewelry became. These bright red tulips just make you smile.

~ The flower heads themselves are made of red, carved Bakelite, while the leaves and stems are made of Lucite. The Lucite is also etched from the reverse, adding to the liveliness of the brooch.

~ It retains its original swivel-head safety clasp, which has been riveted (not glued) to the back. There are touches of light rust to the pin back, but the pin stem and clasp are fine and in good working order.

~ The brooch measures a whopping 3.75"high and 2.25" wide

c. 1930, in excellent vintage condition, no chips, no scratches, no repairs!

Research: Bakelite Jewelry, Good, Better, Best, by Wassertrom & Pina, p. 130; the example shown is the identical design, except with Bakelite and carved wood.

Price = $295.00 b 3
