Spectacular Victorian Repoussé Bracelet NWS 10-1321 ~ This lovely Victorian bracelet is a fantastic work of art. It's comprised of 6 large cartouches which form the links of the bracelet. At the center of each cartouche is a flower with tiny, engraved details. Eight leaves radiate from the center of each flower, and each leaf also has tiny engraved veins and scalloped edges. The miniscule details are just amazing, and, of course, all done by hand. ~ The links are joined by elegant hinges that look like door hinges. A few of the tiny pins inside the hinges are early replacements and cannot be seen from the front of the bracelet. They hold tight and strong, while the bracelet retains its normal flexibility, without any wobble. ~ The bracelet terminates with a shovel clasp that holds perfectly. When closed, the bracelet's clasp is hidden so the design is continuous. The bracelet also retains its original safety chain but the spring ring needs to be put on. One can be added by any jeweler and probably for free. ~ Bracelet measures 7.5" long and 1.25" wide. ~ The metal is gilt brass. There is almost no wear to the gilding on the front; the reverse shows normal wear commensurate with age. It is in remarkably excellent condition. There is no oxidation ("green stuff"), and I can find no repairs. Except for a few hinge pins already mentioned, it is in completely original condition. A real treasure and a joy for any woman to wear. And no one else will have anything like it. c. mid-19th century Research: Understanding Jewelry, by Bennett and Mascetti, a similar example is shown on page 241.
