It has a convenient "Designer/Manufacturer Identification Chart" that makes for easy reference. Values included. Hard cover, 247 pages.

The first book on costume jewelry I ever bought, this is the one that got me "hooked".  Shows wonderful color photos of the most magical, whimsical and beautiful jewelry ever made.  This is an irresistible book, and so is the artwork it contains. This is a beautiful book, and one that's fun to read. It also includes a lot of information on the history of fashion trends, definitions of styles, a historical perspective. Top quality paperback, with excellent photography. Contains a glossary of jewelry terms. An excellent choice for novice collector to seasoned expert!

 

Costume Jewelry : A Practical Handbook & Value Guide

Unlike some books that show jewelry which is very difficult (if not impossible) to find, the author of this book states that the jewelry he features is still readily found in today's market. One of the many very notable features of this book is his investment advice for buying costume jewelry. He also has a very thorough history of scores of American manufacturers. A handy reference work, with tons of color photos of jewelry!

This wonderful paperback was just published in January, 1999.  In spite of what Amazon says, I had NO trouble getting it from them! This informative price guide has over 350 dazzling color photos, displaying more than 1000 different pieces of desirable costume jewelry.  Some are common, and some are so rare they are in only a few collections.  This is a book you'll want to have with you when you shop, as it fits into most purses! Highly recommended!

Katherine Tuttle, of Christie's East, New York, says this book is "an invaluable resource for the layman who wants to know about jewelry, the appraiser of estate jewelry, or perhaps the collector".  6th ed., 979 pages!

Costume Jewelers : The Golden Age of Design by Joanne Dubbs Ball 0764302124_m.gif (13105 bytes) This hard cover book is one of my favorites. Reveals the history of many of the renowned fashion  designers of the 20th century.  Originally published in 1990, this  is its second printing, with revised price guide in 1997.  You will drool over the jewels in this beautiful book!

This hard cover book is an absolute must for the serious collector. Published in 1997, it's one of the most important reference books I own. An extensive historical perspective provides background info on designers of the 20th century, along with a large sampling of equally memorable unsigned pieces. A personal favorite of mine.

The Best of Costume Jewelry (Schiffer Book for Collectors) by Nancy Schiffer, Tim Scott 0764300016_m.gif (13722 bytes) I don't know a serious collector of costume jewelry that doesn't own this paperback. Arranged by era, it covers the best designers and their fabulous creations, from the 1940's to today. Revised edition with new  values (March 1996).

This book is an essential reference tool for   the serious collector.  It concentrates on earlier forms of jewelry, and has extensive color photos and history of the designs, including reprints of some of the original advertisements. Values revised in 1996. This is one of my favorites!

Another paperback that's essential to the collector's library.  Most price guides concentrate on the first half of the century. This guide provides useful information on more recent creations that have already become collectible.
