~ Trifari was famous for its Jewels of India series, the first edition of which was designed in the 1930's by Alfred Philippe. Philippe was Trifari's most famous designer for over 30 years. Shortly before retiring from Trifari, Philippe designed another version of The Jewels of India. This fantastic butterfly brooch, matching bracelet and earrings are from that 1965 edition.

~ The faux emerald cabochons have  deep within them swirls of pale green, gauze-like glass, and mottles of dappled lighter glass, making them look like real gemstones with natural inclusions. These amazing stones have open-backed settings, and are without foil, so the light transfers through them perfectly, highlighting the inner life of the crystals. They are breathtaking.

~ The stones are pear-shaped, tear drops and also large ovals. Some are bezel-set in gold tone settings, while others have been  prong set by hand. The workmanship involved in this set is mind boggling.

~ For the technically minded, you may be interested to learn that Trifari used real gold in their plating, and the applied thickness of their gold plating was 8 times thicker than the industry standard.* The quality is unsurpassed.

~ Hundreds of faceted, faux diamonds have been pavé set into this set of jewelry. The areas that contain these clear crystals have been thickly plated with rhodium, making the stones gleam with a brilliance resembling platinum. Philippe was a master designer whose attention to such details is what made him famous, and his jewelry is in great demand (before coming to Trifari, Philippe designed jewelry for Cartier in Paris).

~ The butterfly brooch measures 2.25" high and 1.35" wide.

~ The bracelet measures 7.25" long x 1" wide and terminates in a folding, jeweled clasp. It bears a gold safety chain.

~ The earrings are clips and measure 1.5" long.

~ The reverse is markeded "Trifari", with the crown logo above the "T".

c. 1965, in mint condition.
